Another year older, my girl! I say it every year but I'll say it again- I can't believe another year has passed and you are N I N E now. Let that sink in. One year closer to double digits. One year closer to driving.
This has been a year of you continually coming out of your shell, being so independent and responsible. You are more confident in yourself and I have loved seeing you grow in that way. All the things I love about you just keep getting better- the way you care, listen, and love. The way you take care of your baby brother. The way you help your sister, especially in new situations. You two may fight hard but you love even harder and those moments outweigh the moments that you are at each other's throats.
A lot of pressure is on you- being the big sister and all. Sometimes, and not fair, admittedly, expectations are higher because you are older and I want you to know that it's ok to have a bad day, to have a day when you just don't feel like being an example/role model, and need to let off a little steam. I also want you to know that I notice when you're the only one who has listened to my directions and while I'm directing others- you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. Have I told you you're my favorite ;)
I can't wait to see what year nine brings you- what new interests you may have. I can't wait to continue to watch your friendships grow, watch you navigate what it means to stick up for what's right even when it's not always the most popular, and to continue to believe in yourself because you are wonderful. And worthy. And oh so loved.
