Our First Dr's Appointment!

Today we had our first Dr's appointment. We go to the Mercy women's clinic, we got referred there by two of our friends, and so far everyone we have met seems pretty nice. We got to hear the baby's heartbeat again, it was 150. The nurse prac. said that we must have a pretty outgoing baby because some women it is hard to get to hear the heartbeat this early in a pregnancy. I didn't get to meet a Dr, but got a lot of information from the nurse practitioner. We got to hear which hospital we can deliver at, either Mercy, Mercy West, or Methodist. We think we want to go to Mercy West since it is close to home. Something we will need to look up and figure out sometime. One concern I had was the fact that I haven't gained any weight since I first found out we were expecting. I have been weighing myself daily just to see. She said that it was nothing to worry about and and as long as my uterus was proportionate to how far along I was it was ok. She also said it's good not to gain a lot of weight in the beginning, so it looks like everything is going well and our next appointment is 4 weeks from now, Feb. 5. At that time I will be 16 weeks and then it will only be another 4 weeks until I get to have an ultrasound. At this point we will be able to tell the sex of the baby, that is if it is turned the right way! I've already gotten tips to drink Dr. Pepper and a Snickers bar before the appointment, so the baby will move around.

One of the difficult things I've found is eating right and making sure I am being healthy. I have tried to increase my water intake and I think I am doing well. I'm still nowhere near 6-8 glasses a day, but I guess small steps is what it will take! The nurse prac. also suggested whenever I eat a carb to pair it with a protein, so if I have crackers, put peanut butter on it, if I have an apple, have a cheese stick too. I am trying to make sure I get all my fruits and veggies too but the whole veggie thing is proving difficult. I have tried drinking V8 Fusion to help but she also suggested not to drink all my calories. So, I'm not sure if that is exactly what I am supposed to do either. Oh well, I suppose I just need to do what I think is best and try not to worry too much! :)
